We love the theme parks in Orlando and do visit them quite often.

This particular park is Universal Studios, Islands of Adventure.

We spent the day and had a blast.  If you would like to take a look…..

The Dr. Seuss section is a favorite.  Didn’t we all grow up reading Dr. Seuss books?

One of my favorites was always…

———————————-

Green Eggs and Ham

We decided to create our own Green Eggs and Ham based on the book and the fun we had at Seuss Landing.

Here is a preview.  For the recipe, see below at the bottom of this blog post.

We wanted them to look “Cartoonish” and I think we succeeded.

Cooking the Ham Steak

Ingredients:

1 Ham Steak

5 Tbsp. Olive Oil

10 Drops Green Food Coloring

Place your olive oil in a large cast iron skillet, add 5 drops of your food coloring and heat to med. high heat.

Mix the food coloring into the oil using a brush or whisk.

When hot, add your ham steak to the pan.

Cook the ham for about 4 min. on the one side.

Add the last 5 drops of food coloring to the pan and flip the ham steak.

Cook the steak for another 3 min. then remove and place on paper towels to drain.

Cooking the Eggs

4 to 6 eggs

1 Drop Green Food Coloring per Egg

1 Tbsp Olive Oil per Egg

Salt and Pepper to taste

Chopped Chives, optional

Break the egg and separate the yolk from the white and set aside in separate bowls.

I found that one egg yolk and two egg whites was a good mixture.  Below, we did two yolks and two whites.

Add your food coloring to the egg white and mix well.

Here, this egg had twins… which is good luck!

Add your olive oil to the pan.

Heat the oil to Med. High heat and when ready, add your green egg whites.

Place your yolk or yolks on top.

Now, place them into your oven under the broiler for about two min.

Plate them as shown or use your own creative style.

Green Gravy

Ingredients:

2 Tbsp. Flour

2 Tbsp. Butter

2 Cups Milk

Salt and pepper to taste

Using the ham steak pan and fats, heat the pan to Med. heat.

For the green gravy, use the oil left over from the ham steak pan adding more fat (in this case butter) to the pan if needed.  You could also use olive oil instead of butter.

Place in equal amounts of flour to the fat to the pan, and mix with the fats until you have a wet sand consistency.

Here, I added a touch more fat (butter) to equal out the fat to flour ratio.

Mix well and cook for a few min. to rid the mixture of the flour taste.

While this is heating, chop your chives if you have time.

After a few min. of cooking, add ~3/4 cup of milk to the pan and stir.  You can use a whisk to incorporate the ingredients together.

Mix well as the flour absorbs the milk and becomes thick.  Salt and pepper to taste.

When is becomes thick, add more milk to thin out the gravy as the flour will likely absorb more milk as it continues to heat.

When the gravy is at your desired consistency, I like to add a touch of butter to enrich the gravy while giving it a nice shine.  Mix well and turn off the heat.  You may need a touch more milk as the gravy sits and thickens.
